For A Better Life

51 Field Regiment deployed under 2 Mountain Artillery Brigade was inducted in Sibsagar district of Assam to carry out counter-insurgency operations. After successful completion of one year in the district, the regiment was inducted in North Lakhimpur.

Besides the strenuous task of counter-insurgency operations, the unit launched a large number of civic action projects for uplift of the locals.

Under the project "Health for All," about 25 free-health camps were organised in remote areas of the district where medical facilities were either non-existent or too insignificant to be effective. In these camps, more than 2500 patients were examined and disbursed free medicines. Three veterinary camps were also organised in remote areas. The unit extended CSD facilities to the locals of the remote areas. A community hall was also constructed for the locals. A Sarav Dharam Sthal was renovated by the unit. A muga farm was created wherein 1500 muga plants were planted. A bridge was repaired with the local help and was opened in just 10 days.

The 51 Field Regiment renovated a library and provided books in English, Hindi and other vernacular languages. The library was also equipped with books to prepare children for various competitive examinations like bank exams, enrolment in the Army, Navy and the Air Force, entrance exams for NDA, IMA and OTA. Various sports activities and a seminar on "Role of Youth in Nation Building" with special reference to North-East was organised. A state-of-the-art computer centre was also provided by the unit.

M V School which had not been repaired since its construction in 1965 was renovated and reopened.
