Book on Kargil War Released

The Chief of the Army Staff, Gen S Padmanabhan released a book "A Ridge Too Far" written by Capt Amarinder Singh.

Describing the book as "inspirational" and as a history with human face, Gen Padmanabhan said the book must be read by soldiers and the students of military history.

Capt Amarinder Singh said that the book is not a historical account of the events. ‘‘I have given more emphasis on how each and every soldier of the Army fought selflessly to thwart the evil designs of the enemy’’ he said.

Gallantry award winners and the officers who led the operations were honoured with a copy of the book by Mrs Roopa Padmanabhan. The kin of martyrs Capt V K Batra, Capt Arun Nayyar, Maj Rajesh Adhikari, Maj V K Gupta, Hav Yogendra Singh Yadav and Hav Sanjay Kumar were presented with a copy of the book.

‘‘The proceeds from the book’’, Capt Amarinder Singh said, ‘‘would go to a trust being set up for the welfare of an officer and three other ranks who had lost their eyes during the Kargil war’’.
