First Regiment's Maiden Venture

The ‘‘First Army’’ HQ Signal Regiment successfully completed a high altitude trekking expedition in general area of Joshimath. The expedition team comprised three officers, one JCO and ten Other Ranks. The team was flagged off by ADG (Tele) Maj Gen NP Kumar.

The starting point of expedition was Auli. The expedition followed the trekking route of Gailgarh, Pana Iranik, Gunni, Ghat, Durmi and Tharali, covering approximately 210 kms in eight days and terminating at Gwaldam. The team negotiated the Kuari Pass which is at a height of 13000 ft and Chechani Vinayak.

Despite heavy downpour, dense foliage and slippery track, the team made excellent progress. The trek gave ample opportunities to the team members to study the flora and fauna of the Himalayas besides giving them an insight into the lives of people staying in the remote locality. The expedition returned to New Delhi after successfully completing the trek.

This maiden venture of the "First Regiment" was a test-bed for the future expeditions to be undertaken during the coming years. The unit will be attempting a Trans Thar Expedition on camels in general area of Jaisalmer.
