My stint with National Cadet Corps began in 2001
when I got enrolled with 2 Jammu and Kashmir Girls Battalion in the
college. Though I had heard of NCC, I hardly knew what it exactly was all
about. As I came to know more about NCC after interacting with my seniors,
I developed a passion for becoming an Under Officer. This dream was
realised when I attended my first national camp in Delhi. My participation
in the camp gave birth to another dream—to become a member of the NCC
contingent that parades on the Rajpath. My determination enabled me to
become a member of the contingent of Jammu and Kashmir Directorate which
took part in the Republic Day parade this year.
I did not believe when I got selected for the guard of
honour squad. I was the only girl cadet from our directorate to be part of
the squad. I was also selected master of ceremonies for various cultural
programmes during the camp. This could not have been possible without the
vibrant and competitive spirit prevalent in the camp.
NCC transformed me not only physically but morally as
well. It made me aware of cultures and customs of fellow cadets. NCC is
the only organisation where unity and discipline go hand in hand with
growth and enjoyment. It helps one become confident and self-reliable. NCC
helped my dream realise so early in life.
