A Day for "Double First"

 
 

Eleven Grenadiers located somewhere in the western sector celebrated its 41st re-Raising Day. It was raised as a territorial unit in 1922 and was named 11/4 Bombay Grenadiers (Mewar) Infantry. It was disembodied in 1946. The battalion was re-raised at Jaipur on October 1, 1963. Since then it has performed commendably in various operations. Notable among them were operations Rakshak, Vijay, Meghdoot and Parakram.

Also known as the Double First, the battalion has excelled in various military activities and sports. The well Known wrestler Sub (now Honorary) Capt Netar Pal was also from 11 Grenadiers. He had won the title of Hind Kesri.

The three-day re-Raising Day celebrations includes pagal gymkhana, barakhana for troops and a special sainik sammelan. The celebrations were attended by a large number of serving and ex-officers of the Double First including Lt Gen RS Shahrawat, Director General of Ordnance Services and Lt Gen (Retd) RIS Kahlon, ex-Master General of Ordnance. Also present on the occasion were Brig (Retd) Mohinder Singh, the second Commanding Officer of the battalion and many retired officers who had hoisted the flag of the battalion at Jaipur on October 1, 1963.
