Mastering Medicine

 
 

A Continuing Medical Education (CME) meet was conducted under the aegis of HQ 4 Corps at Gajraj Officers Institute. The meet was inaugurated by an eminent cardiologist, Lt Gen BN Shahi, Director General, Medical Services (Army) by lighting the auspicious lamp. Maj Gen AJB Jaini, Chief of Staff, HQ 4 Corps, welcomed the chief guest and thanked him for all assistance he had been giving to the formation. Maj Gen Jaini highlighted the self-less and dedicated service being rendered by all medicos, under trying conditions, not only to the men-in-uniform, but thousands of local under operation Samaritan.

Lt Gen BN Shahi, in his inaugural address, recollected some nostalgic moments of his tenure in Tezpur. He suggested all young doctors to be constantly in touch with the latest developments, as medicine has made rapid progress in the last few years. He highlighted the changing social and environmental conditions and the ailments and diseases that man is likely to suffer from because of these changes. He enlightened all ranks about the latest ultra-modern facilities that are being provided to the Armed Forces Medical Services, and stressed that every doctor should aim at satisfying his patient and win his confidence. Later, he released a souvenier designed by Lt Col Parduman Singh. Brig NK Bhandari, Commandant, 155 Base Hospital thanked the chief guest, organising committee, civilian dignitaries and Gajraj Corps for providing all assistance to hold the meet.

This was followed by a series of guest lectures by specialists, from the Armed Forces and eminent civil doctors. Dr Pramateshwar Baruah, Senior Cardiologist and President, IMA, Tezpur, spoke on ‘recent advances in management of congestive heart failure’ and Dr K Pathak, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, LGB Regional Institute of Mental Health, spoke on ‘mental health of children’. There were various talks on tuberculosis, fitness, poly trauma, MT malaria and emergency medicine in which there was an enthusiastic participation by the audience.

The two-day meet concluded with a banquet for the guests and a sight-seeing tour of the local attractions. The programme was an enlightening and immensely satisfying experience for all participants.
