Sixty Plus

Embarkation Headquarters, Mumbai, a premier inter-service organisation of the Defence Services, celebrated its 67th Raising Day.

The organisation came into existence during World War-I in 1915 as Embarkation Section when Indian troops were being equipped with .303 rifles. It was redesignated as "Embarkation Headquarters" in 1936 and was reorganised into its present form on December 22, 1947. The mamoth tasks of Embarkation Headquarters include import and export of defence items cargo pertaining to the three Services, Ordnance Factories and defence- related PSUs by sea and air and their final dispatch to the ultimate consignees. It handles safely, swiftly and economically unbelievable tons of defence cargo both during peace and operations.

During the last two years Embarkation Headquarters has achieved a viable saving of Rs 7.2 crore and Rs 4.19 crore by analysing and streamlining procedures and various proactive measures.
