AMC Celebrations

The 239th anniversary of Army Medical Corps was celebrated at 151 Base Hospital with enthusiasm. As a part of the celebrations, games and cultural programmes were organised. A special sainik sammelan was addressed by Brig Ratan Singh, Commandant, on this occasion. This was followed by the unit badakhana in which combatants and civilian staff along with their families participated. Retired AMC personnel with their families also graced the occasion.

The 151 Base Hospital is the largest zonal hospital of the Armed Forces in the North-East. It is a multidisciplinary centre with modern facilities like cardiac lab and CT scan centre. A new state-of-the-art Artificial Limb Sub Centre is also being established here. The hospital has been providing yeoman service to the Armed Forces, para-military forces and ex-servicemen and their families for more than three decades. It has, on a number of occasions, extended aid to civil authorities in times of crisis and natural disasters.

Poultry Farm Inaugurated

The Assam Rifles has been carrying out various welfare projects under the Military Civic Action (MCA) for providing basic amenities to the weaker sections of the state.

Brig BK Chengapa, DIG, Assam Rifles, AC & A Range inaugurated a poultry farm constructed by 5 Assam Rifles. Col AS Harge, Commandant, 5 Assam Rifles was also present on the occasion.

Computer Centre Inaugurated

A computer centre was inaugurated at Jairampur by Maj Gen HS Batra, GOC, 2 Mountain Division. Col JS Yadav, Commanding Officer, 7 Assam Rifles was an instrumental force behind this project.

The project is a part of the Border Area Development Programme (BADP) for the people of Jairampur. It is aimed at providing the necessary computer education to help the local public find better job opportunities. Ten computers installed at the centre will be run by 7 Assam Rifles for the public and students of Jairampur and nearby villages.

Speaking on the occasion DC, Changlang, appreciated the unique project and exhorted the public of Jairampur to derive maximum benefit from this project.

Celebrations at 4 Corps

Troops of Gajraj Corps celebrated Army Day at HQ 4 Corps, Tezpur.
Lt Gen Mohinder Singh, GOC, 4 Corps addressed the officers and men on the occasion and reminded them of the significance of this historic event. He highlighted the achievements of Gajraj Corps and appreciated the hardwork and dedication of all ranks. He said that Army has always been the right answer to any crisis, be it external aggression, internal disorder, flood, famine or any other natural calamity. "One must make every effort to live up to one’s reputation, and work towards achieving higher standards and play a key-role in nation-building", he added.

 

Football Field at Leimakhong

Brig VK Batura, Commander, 59 Mountain Brigade and Station Commandar, Leimakhong inaugurated a football field at Leimakhong Cantonment. The ground was developed in the cantonment for the benefit of Army and civil population living in and around Leimakhong.

The occasion was celebrated with friendly matches between Kukis, Meiteis, Nagas and Nepalis. Brig VK Batura complimented the sportsmen for their competitive spirit. A cultural programme in which all communities participated was also presented on the occasion.

ULFA Cache Unearthed

The troops of Red Horn Division achieved an unmatched success by exploring a massive dump of ammunition and explosives of ULFA in Khogabil in Nalbari district. ULFA militants sent a consignment of highly sophisticated ammunition and explosives for causing extensive damage in Nalbari district. The consignment was hidden for use at an appropriate time.

The troops of Tamulur Brigade recovered the sophisticated ammunition from the dump. The cache included 18 rounds of shoulder fired RPGs, 18 rounds of 60 mm mortar, 13 detachable propellant charge tubes, two remote controlled IED detonating devices and 2 kgs of explosive powder.

Sainik Institute at Missamari

Lt Gen Mohinder Singh, GOC, Gajraj Corps inaugurated the Station Sainik Institute at Missamari Cantt. The institute, housed in a renovated auditorium, is designed to provide recreational and entertainment facilities for JCOs/ORs and their families. The institute is provided with a modern health club, an indoor badminton court and a reading room. Permanent stalls have been set up for providing catering services to all members.

The GOC, accompanied by Mrs Jasbir Mohinder Singh, was received by Brig JS Mann, Station Commander, Missamari and Mrs Rajinder Mann. More than 300 families based at the station attended the inaugural ceremony. Interacting with the families present at the function, the GOC emphasised the need for an optimal utilisation of the institute.

Besides providing a venue for social interaction, the institute will also be used for functions like family welfare meets and station health programmes. A computer training centre with internet facility is proposed to be added shortly.

Medical Camp

Troops of Dah Division organised a free medical camp under the aegis of Gajraj Corps. The camp was organised at Amsoi High School in Nagaon district.

Amsoi is a remote area with no medical facilities for the local public. The inhabitants are mostly Assamese, Karbi, Tiwa and tea labourers.

The medical camp was inaugurated by Col Inder Singh, Deputy Commander, 2 Mountain Artillery Brigade. The camp was a joint effort of Army and civil authorities provide
the services of the child ENT and
skin specialists, ophthalmologist, gynaecologist, dentist and surgeons. Medicines worth Rs. 80,000 was distributed among the local public. In addition to it, Col Rajesh Kumar, Commanding Officer, 51 Field Regiment, distributed homeopathic medicines among the patients.

Speaking on the occasion, Col Singh said that medical camps under operation Samaritan have been conducted to ensure that the local people reap benefits of the facilities available with the Army.

The local authorities thanked Army for conducting the camp and felicitated the dignitaries by presenting gamocha.

During the camp, altogether 3000 patients were treated. Canteen facilities were also provided to civilians. The CO, 51 Field Regiment thanked the civil authorities for their help and co-operation and promised to organise more such camps in future.

CSD Day

Canteen Store Department (CSD) Area Depot, Narangi celebrated CSD’s 55th Annual Day with enthusiasm. The Canteen Stores Department commenced its operations on January 1, 1948. The number of depots today has grown to thirtyfour.

The Canteen Store Department (East) has been providing the procurement, provisioning and allied facilities to the various unit-run canteens in the North-East region. On this occasion greetings received from QMG and GM (CSD) were read out. A number of games for staff and their children were also organised. The function culminated with a badakhana which saw a wide participation by the CSD officials and their families.

Major General Visits Vehicle Company

Maj Gen PS Malhotra, MG AOC, Eastern Command visited 41 Vehicle Company. It was a nostalgic trip down memory lane for the Major General, who as a Lt Col had commanded 41 Vehicle Company during 1988-1989. He has also commanded Central Command Stationary Depot and Ordnance Depot, Avadi besides holding several key staff appointments in his long and illustrious career.

Maj Gen Malhotra appreciated the unit for its efficiency and all-around progress and asked the unit personnel to further strive for excellence in their works to keep up the good job done.

Pulse Polio Camp

As a part of welfare measures extended to the people of Assam by the Army, the troops of Red Horns Division deployed in Darrang district conducted pulse polio immunisation camp on February 9, last. The immunisation programme was organised with the assistance of civil doctors.

This pulse polio drive carried out by the Army was unique, as the polio drops were administered to each and every doorstep of 24 villages. Approximately 3120 children were administered polio drops. This pulse polio drive evoked an overwhelming response from the local people who deeply appreciated the Army’s efforts in ensuring good health to the children.
