The Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Lt Gen Vijay Oberoi and Mrs Daulat Oberoi, Vice President Central Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) accompanied by Lt Gen TS Shergill, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Corps visited Manipur recently. On arrival at Kangla Fort, Imphal, they were received by Maj Gen Iqbal Singh, GOC 57 Mountain Division. Lt Gen Vijay Oberoi also called on the Governor of Manipur, Mr Ved Marwah at Raj Bhawan, Imphal.

Mrs Daulat Oberoi interacted with a cross-section of ladies and enquired about their welfare. Earlier at Rangapahar, the details of all the AWWA activities in 3 Corps Zone were given to her by Mrs Rindi Shergill, President, AWWA 3 Corps. The visitors witnessed and applauded the cultural programme organised by Manipur Range at Kangla Fort. Traditional Manipuri dance sequences and a display of Manipuri martial arts were the highlights of the cultural programme.

Lt Gen Vijay Oberoi and Mrs Daulat Oberoi also visited the small Kuki hamlet of Maokot Chepu in Litan village in Ukhrul district. The VCOAS, in his address on the occasion, exhorted the people to be proud of their historic lineage and martial ancestry. He also emphasised that the mission of one and all should be to bring back into the national mainstream the misguided youth who were led astray by vested and diabolic interests. In a special message to students, the Vice Chief of Army Staff exhorted them to work hard with a vision to face the new millennium. The General on his visit to the Indira Gandhi Hill Flower School presented an assorted range of sports items to the school.
