A Hi-Tech Post Office

 
 

As part of the automation of postal services in the Army, the first Multi-Purpose Counter Machine (MPCM) was inaugurated at the Army Postal Service (APS) Centre, Kamptee by the Additional Director General APS, Maj Gen RS Kareer.

Speaking on the occasion, after booking a letter presented by Station Commander Kamptee, Brig Vinod Chopra, Maj Gen Kareer said that ninety other Field Post Offices (FPOs) located at Command and Corps Headquarters will be gradually equipped with such machines. By the end of this year, all FPOs would have the facility of catering to all types of user needs such as speed post, money order, express parcel, passport services, payment of telephone bills etc at the same counter.

Maj Gen Kareer said that the MPCM, operated on the Meghdoot Millennium Software, specially developed to meet the requirement of the defence sector postal units, will function as ‘Single Window’ in the post office. He said that other new ventures, such as Track and Trace system for Speed Post and Express Parcel Post and connecting of Army Post Office Kamptee to the VSAT network were also on the cards.

Welcoming the distinguished guests, Commandant, Army Postal Service Centre, Col AK Shori said that this MPCM would also be utilised to provide on-the-job training. APS is determined to provide speedier and a better quality of service to the defence personnel, he added.

Later, Maj Gen Kareer released a book titled Action by a Unit on Soldier’s Death. All relevant orders, instructions and specimen of various forms to be used in the event of unfortunate demise of a serving soldier have been compiled in this book.

The Commandant, Guards Regimental Centre and Station Commander Kamptee, Brig Vinod Chopra, Commandng Officers of various Army units and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
