Raising Day Celebrations

The 119 Assault Engineer Regiment, an elite unit of Bombay Sappers celebrated its seventh raising day somewhere in the western sector. The celebrations began with all ranks paying obeisance at the Unit Mandir, Masjid and Gurudwara.

Addressing a special sainik sammelan on the occasion, the Commanding Officer of the regiment, Col Y Dimri reminded the unit personnel of their achievements and exhorted them to rededicate themselves to scale new heights in future. He also honoured the soldiers and squadrons who excelled in various activities.

The squadrons of the regiment draw lineage from those disbanded after the second World War and bear the same designations. These sub-units had participated in both the World Wars and were recipients of one OBE (Order of the British Empire) and five mention-in-despatches.

During operation Parakram, the regiment received accolades from all the quarters for its professional excellence. About eight personnel of the unit have been commended by the Army Commanders for their exemplary devotion to duty.

The regiment has immensely contributed to the conservation of environment in the cantonment. A nature park has been developed and nurtured by the regiment since 1998. Today it has grown into a popular spot for recreation. The regiment is now developing an environment park, as part of its environment protection scheme.
