Remount
and Veterinary Corps (RVC), an elite and specialised force meant for
breeding, training and treatment of military horses, cattle and dogs
celebrated its 222nd anniversary in Chandimandir Cantonment. To mark the
occasion, a get-together was organised for the serving and retired Corps
officers at the Western Command headquarters. The GOC-in-C, Western
Command, Lt Gen Surjit Singh and Chief of Staff, Lt Gen H S Kanwar graced
the function.
Lt
Gen Surjit Singh greeted all ranks, civilians and ex-servicemen of the
Corps and their families. He called for rededication by the Corps
personnel to the service of the Army and the nation. The Director, RVC,
Col M Bhattacharjee also extended his felicitations to all ranks.
The proud history and heritage of
RVC dates back to 1779 with rich traditions and remarkable achievements.
The RVC, an intrinsic component of Army, has an excellent track record of
performance.
It has been successfully meeting all
assigned operational challenges under the most trying and difficult
conditions by keeping very high standards of health, training and physical
fitness of the Army animals.
Army dogs and their trainers have
proved to be a force multiplier by their outstanding performance in
counter-insurgency operations. Several dogs and their trainers have
received gallantry awards and commendation cards from the Chief of Army
Staff and Army Commanders for their distinguished services. At the
National Games at Jalandhar, riders from RVC proved their supremacy in
equestrian sports by winning six gold, two silver and three bronze medals.
