Altogether
250 rhinos of the Assam Regimental Centre (ARC) were baptised as
soldiers under the shadow of the dreaded dah. They marched past the
reviewing dais to the tune of auld lang syne at an impressive
attestation parade held at Parson Parade Ground in Happy Valley, Shillong.
Maj Gen IJS Bora, GOC, 101 Area reviewed the parade.
The
kasam parade was held under the shadow of the fluttering Tri-colour
and the Presidential colour. The young soldiers pleged to sacrifice their
lives for the nation, if called upon. Maj Gen Bora presented the awards of
excellence to Sep VL Muauzona for best in drill, Sep N Ranjan Singh for
overall best recruit and Sep O Nongneng for best in firing. Later, Maj Gen
Bora complimented them for their excellent turnout and immaculate drill.
Believing in excellence through professional competence, serving with
dignity and honour and converting problems into challenges are the real mantras
for the soldiers who aim high in their career, said Maj Gen Bora.
The
Assam Regiment identified by the 'Unicorn Rhino' adopted as its mascot has
so far won two Mahavir Chakra, three Kirti Chakra, five Vir
Chakra, one Ashok Chakra, 14 Shaurya Chakra, 51 Sena
Medals, 43 Mention-in-Despatches, three Param Vishisht Seva Medals,
two Padamshri and six post-Independence Commendation Cards since
its inception.
