The
17 Assam Rifles celebrated its 42nd Raising Day at the historic Kangla
Fort, Imphal. The battalion was awarded a unit citation by GOC-in-C,
Eastern Command, Lt Gen H R S Kalkat for excellent performance in
countering insurgency in Manipur, high order of achievements, devotion to
duty and setting example for others in the year 2001. The battalion has
won the largest number of gallantry and distinguished service awards in
the current year.
The
unit has displayed rare standards of professionalism, set a mark for
itself, worked harder and achieved what the best can aspire. Be it
counter-insurgency operations or internal security duties or assistance to
civil administration or carrying out civic action projects, the battalion
has left its mark in all operations.
The 17 Assam Rifles has built an
impeccable reputation in the dealings with the local population. It has
contributed immensely through people-friendly civic action projects for
the local public to alleviate the sufferings that the insurgency has
wrought on them.
On
the occasion of 42nd Raising Day, addressing a special sainik sammelan,
the Commanding Officer of 17 Assam Rifles, Col Dilawar Singh complimented
all ranks for having put in their best to achieve the historic success. He
also exhorted them to be much more vigilant, to conduct themselves in an
exemplary manner and exercise maximum restraint to ensure absolute safety,
dignity and to win the trust and confidence of people.
