The
Army is deployed to maintain peace in North-East where it is also involved
in operation Samaritan. The troops of Dah Division deployed in
Upper Assam have been striving with their own resources and with the funds
provided by the Government to win the hearts and minds of the local
public. Under this operation, seven computer training centres have been
established to provide computer training to local public at Mazgaon,
Sonari, Moran, Lekhapani, Naharkatiya Rupai and North Lakhimpur.Eleven
vocational training institutes have been established at Garhgaon,
Simulguri, Nutannagar, Dangorigaon, Sapekhati, Barhat, Jeraigaon,
Philobari, Bagjan, Jugipathar and Boragadhai where local youths are
imparted training in typing, knitting, sewing, tailoring, computer and
fabrication of FRP sheets.
A number of bridges have been
repaired and road construction has been carried out in the remote areas
like Hologuri, Athanibari and Dheklajuli. Two wooden bridges have been
constructed at Athanibari and Dheklajuli and another two bridges on gaps
on track Singhajan to Simanchapri on north bank of Brahamputra.
The Field Ambulance Company carried
out seven medical camps for the medical check-up of local public and
distribution of free medicines. Such camps were arranged at Kakotibari,
Majuli, Kakopathar, Tenali, Sapekhati, Laipuli and Pengri.
A
number of schools have been repaired and reconstructed while libraries
have been re-established and handed over to civilians. Public community
hall and toilet facilities have also been constructed. The bus stand at
Amguri and civil hospital at Doomduma have been renovated. At Nazira,
major renovation was carried out in the hospital.
Through these projects, a positive
communication has been established between the Army and the local public.
The militants, once enjoying the support of the locals, have been
completely isolated and demoralised. These development oriented activities
of Army will go a long way to improve the situation in North-East.
