It
was a red-letter day when the personnel of the Territorial Army (TA)
called upon the President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Maj Gen Dalvir
Singh, Additional Director General, TA introduced them to the President.
The officers present on the occasion were Brig SC Uppal, DDGTA, Col AK
Sharma, Colonel GS, alongwith personnel from TA units and TA Directorate,
Army Headquarters.
Maj Gen Dalvir Singh briefed the
President on various contemporary issues related to the Territorial Army.
The President, on the occasion, addressed the personnel and shared his
vision to make the nation a developed country. Remembering the martyrs of
the freedom movement, the President lauded the commitment with which the
Territorial Army has been contributing to the defence and development of
the nation. He made a special mention of its dedication during operations Rakshak
and Parakram.

Abdul Kalam praised the concept of the Territorial Army which provides the
citizen an opportunity to adorn the uniform and gain military training
without sacrificing their civil vocation. In event of a national
emergency, this army may be called to meet the needs of the national
defence and internal security.
