The 4th Battalion of 3 Gorkha Rifles celebrated its 39th Flag Raising Day at Almora in Uttranchal, the birthplace of 3 Gorkha Rifles.

The Flag Raising Day was attended by the Colonel of 3 Gorkha Rifles, Maj Gen Gambhir Singh Negi and the next of kins of the martyrs who brought laurels to the paltan with their sacrifice. Prominent among them was Mr Harish Kapadia, father of Lt Nawang Kapadia who laid down his life on November 11 last year during a counter-insurgency mission in the Kupwara sector of Jammu and Kashmir. It was during this tenure of the paltan in the Kashmir Valley that the bravery demonstrated by its kanchas was recognised with nine decorations. During operation Vijay when the paltan was depolyed in Batalik sector, the brave Gorkhas captured one of the strategically important feature that, later, proved a turning point in the theatre.
