The Coast Guard carried out exercises and minnows recently at sea off Andaman & Nicobar Islands in coordination with the Indian Navy and the Army.

The Coast Guard ships are involved in regular anti-poaching and search-and -rescue operations. The Fortress Andaman & Nicobar Islands is a joint command of the Indian Navy and Army with headquarters at Port Blair for the defence of the islands.

The Coast Guard uses offshore patrol vessels, SDBs, Dornier aircraft and Chetak helicopeters to keep a vigil on Indian territorial waters and exclusive economic zone. It is also prepared to contain and neutralise oil slicks and pollutants at sea. A regional headquarters of the Coast Guard is located at Port Blair. The exercises were witnessed by Vice Admiral OP Bansal, FORTAN on board CGS Vivek.
