  Rajputana Rifles Reunion

The Rajputana Rifles is the oldest rifle regiment of the Indian Army. It celebrated its twelfth post-Independence reunion at Delhi Cantonment recently. A large number of retired officers including three earlier Colonels of the regiment of the rank of Lieutenant General attended the reunion. The British chapter of the Rajputana Rifles Officers Association was represented by Maj Edward Morrow who came all the way from UK to attend the reunion. He is a retired officer of the Rajputana Rifles having served in Indian Army prior to Independence. More than 300 retired JCOs and ORs including a number of former Subedar Majors were also present on the occasion. The regiment had also invited a cross-section of widows and next of kin of its soldiers who were martyred in various wars and counter-insurgency operations since Independence. They were honoured by Lt Gen R S Kodyan, the present Colonel of the Rajputana Rifles.

The regiment comprises 18 active, two Territorial Army and two Rashtriya Rifles battalions. The first battalion of the regiment was raised as far back as on January 10, 1775. During operation Vijay, 2 Rajputana Rifles opened the doors of victory for the Indian Army by capturing Tololing on June 13, 1999.

Today, the Rajputana Rifles can boast of having one Param Vir Chakra, one Ashok Chakra, 10 Mahavir Chakra, 52 Vir Chakra, 7 Kirti Chakra, 30 Shaurya Chakra, 145 Sena Medals and 2068 other awards.
