  3 Dogra: Centenary Celebrations
 


The Third Battalion of the Dogra Regiment celebrated its hundredth year of raising in October, last year at Jalandhar. The celebrations were attended by a large number of serving and retired officers including foreign officers, JCOs and ORs and their families.

 

A wreath-laying ceremony was organised to pay homage to the martyrs of the battalion at Quarter Guard. Maj Gen (Retd) M G Hazari, the seniormost Commanding Officer of the battalion and ex-Colonel of the Dogra Regiment was the chief guest at the wreath-laying ceremony. The unit badakhana included a variety entertainment programme and memoirs of the battalion's golden history of hundred years.

Lt Gen Surjit Singh, GOC-in-C, Western Command and Colonel of the Dogra Regiment and Dogra Scouts took the salute at an impressive and centenary parade which was commanded by Col P S Bhagi, the Commanding officer of the battalion. While addressing the special sainik sammelan, Lt Gen Surjit Singh lauded the rich traditions and high morale of the battalion. On this occasion, he also released a Special First Day Cover brought out by the Army Postal Service. Special commemorative messages received from the President, Defence Minister and the Chief of Army Staff were read. A special family welfare meet was also organised which was presided over by Mrs Deep Surjit Singh, President AWWA, Western Command and attended by all families.

A solemn veterans' meet was organised to honour the decorated and valiant soldiers of the battalion. Mrs Deep Surjit Singh, President, AWWA, Western Command and Maj Gen (Retd) A S Chopra, the Commanding Officer during 1971 Indo-Pak war, presented the gifts and cash awards to war widows and decorated soldiers.
