Dogras Scale Twin Peaks

An Indian Army mountaineering expedition has successfully scaled the highest peaks of the remote Rupshu region of the Eastern Ladakh. The peaks of Chhamser Kangri (6622 m) and Lungser Kangri (666 m) were climbed successfully.

The challenging expedition was undertaken by intrepid soldiers of the 9th battalion of the Dogra Regiment, who were flagged off from Jalandhar by Lt Gen Kamal Davar, GOC, Vajra Corps. Commending the efforts and lauding the achievement of the team at a special function for the ‘flag-in’ ceremony held at Tibri, Maj Gen AJB Jaini, General Officer Commanding of the famous Pine Division said that the expedition has done the Division and Indian Army proud. He further reaffirmed the commitment of his Division towards a greater thrust and impetus towards promotion of adventure activities. Speaking on the occasion, Brig JS Rajal, Commander of the Ravi Brigade highlighted the importance of adventure activities in the Army and said that he was proud of the magnificent achievement of the unit.

The expedition was part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the unit. The Commanding Officer, Col Ranbir Singh highlighted that maximum members of the team did not have earlier experience of mountaineering expedition and it was the right selection and intensive training of the team that accounted for the grand success of scaling two of the most difficult peaks. The ten-member team was led by Maj Ashok Abbey, an experienced mountaineer.
