An
Indian Army mountaineering expedition has successfully scaled
the highest peaks of the remote Rupshu region of the Eastern
Ladakh. The peaks of Chhamser Kangri (6622 m) and Lungser
Kangri (666 m) were climbed successfully.
The
challenging expedition was undertaken by intrepid soldiers of
the 9th battalion of the Dogra Regiment, who were flagged off
from Jalandhar by Lt Gen Kamal Davar, GOC, Vajra Corps.
Commending the efforts and lauding the achievement of the team
at a special function for the ‘flag-in’ ceremony held at
Tibri, Maj Gen AJB Jaini, General Officer Commanding of the
famous Pine Division said that the expedition has done the
Division and Indian Army proud. He further reaffirmed the
commitment of his Division towards a greater thrust and
impetus towards promotion of adventure activities. Speaking on
the occasion, Brig JS Rajal, Commander of the Ravi Brigade
highlighted the importance of adventure activities in the Army
and said that he was proud of the magnificent achievement of
the unit.
The
expedition was part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the
unit. The Commanding Officer, Col Ranbir Singh highlighted
that maximum members of the team did not have earlier
experience of mountaineering expedition and it was the right
selection and intensive training of the team that accounted
for the grand success of scaling two of the most difficult
peaks. The ten-member team was led by Maj Ashok Abbey, an
experienced mountaineer.
