The
Thambi Tigers celebrated their millennium raising day
recently. It was a landmark in the history of the regiment, as
fifteen ex-officers including five ex-COs of the regiment
joined the celebrations.
The millennium
celebrations began with a sainik sammelan followed by
wreath-laying ceremony. The sainik sammelan was
addressed by some of the old CO’s and ex-officers of the
unit. It was a touching journey down the memory lane, bringing
back nostalgic moments of yester years. Regimental barakhana
was organised in the evening. The Officers Mess function
was hosted at Station Artillery Mess, Raiwala. Dinner at JCO’s
Mess in which the Subedar Major played host to all the serving
and retired officers of the Regiment was also organised on the
occasion.
The 93 Field Regiment
was raised at Haldwani on June 20, 1963, as a Compo Mountain
Regiment (Towed). The class composition was South Indian, and
it was equipped with 3.7" howtizer with which it fought
the 1965 Indo-Pak war in Sialkot Sector.
The Thambi Tigers
have the unique distinction of participating in every
operation since its raising. In 1971, the unit was actively
involved in the liberation of Bangladesh.
Thambi
Tigers
proved their mettle yet again in counter-insurgency operations
in J & K. It is the proud recipient of COAS unit citation.
BC/OP parties have participated in operations Meghdoot and
Vijay.
The regiment has to
its credit five Sena Medals, eight COAS Commendation
Cards, three GOC-in-C Commendation Cards as also the COAS Unit
Citation, GOC-in-C Northern Command Unit appreciation, DG Arty’s
plaque and the GOC ‘V’ Forces’s banner.
