The
passing-out parade of the I2th batch of Armed Forces Medical
College was held at Parade Ground of AFMC, Pune. A total of 54
medical graduates including 8 lady cadets were commissioned
into the Services. Lt Gen NC Vij, General Officer Commanding
-in-Chief, Southern Command took the salute. He was received
by Lt Gen MA Tutakne, Commandant, AFMC and Maj Gen VW Tilak,
Dean and the Deputy Commandant. A large number of officers
were present on the occasion. In his address to the newly
commissioned officers, the Army Commander congratulated them
on joining Armed Forces.

Later,
Lt Gen NC Vij gave away prizes at the academic awards function
in the Dhanvantri Auditorium of the college. Flying Officer
Ashutosh Arya of the Indian Air Force was adjudged the best
outgoing cadet of the batch and Surg Sub Lt Kavita B Anand the
best outgoing lady cadet. Presenting the annual report for the
year 2000-2001, Maj Gen VW Tilak thanked faculty and students
in their efforts to make AFMC the third best medical college
in India. He informed the gathering that the college had
bagged 96 distinctions in various examinations held by Pune
University and Maharastra University of Health Sciences during
the year 2000. A Students Hobby Club exhibition was
inaugurated by Mrs Vij at Golden Jubilee Block. The display
included the prize winning paintings and craft items
exclusively done by students.
A cultural show was also
organised on the occasion. Lt Gen NC Vij and his wife Mrs Rita
Vij attended the function.
