  Re-Union of the Dogra Regiment
   
 

The 12th re-union of the elite Dogra Regiment was organised at its Regimental Centre at Faizabad. Over 350 ex-personnel and representatives of the battalions from across the country participated in the re-union. They renewed their past associations and refreshed old memories.

At the special sainik sammelan, gallant deeds of the Dogra soldiers were recalled. Addressing all ranks, Lt Gen Surjit Singh, the Colonel of the Dogra Regiment, said that the battalions of the Dogra Regiment had participated in all the post-independence battles, wars and peace-keeping missions abroad. Commending all ranks for their bravery, Lt Gen Surjit Singh said that their deeds of valour had brought glory not only to the Indian Army but to the whole nation.

Mrs Deep Surjit Singh, wife of Lt Gen Surjit Singh interacted with war widows. Later, at a function the war widows were felicitated.

Lt Gen NC Vij, Southern Army Commander, Brig NS Sandhu (Retd) and Sub Maj (Hony Capt) Prem Singh (Retd) and the father of late Maj Sandeep Shankla, a recipient of Ashok Chakra posthumously were among those who attended the re-union. Maj DG Williams (Retd) and Maj WR Thorp (Retd) came all the way from UK to renew their bonds with the regiment.

A first day postal cover prepared by the Army Postal Service (APS) was also released on the occasion by
Lt Gen Surjit Singh.

Earlier, at an attestation parade, 228 recruits on completion of their training were inducted as fullfledged soldiers of the Dogra Regiment. Floral tributes were paid during the wreath laying ceremony that followed the parade to the martyrs of the regiment who gave the supreme sacrifice in various wars and actions.

In the Battalion Commanders’ Biennial Conference that preceded the reunion, military as well as welfare matters were discussed.
