Literacy in Nagaland
Maj
Gen R N Kapur, GOC Nagaland visited Assam Rifles units in
Dimapur District. The GOC Nagaland was briefed by Brig D K
Babbar, Commander, 64 Mountain Brigade and Commanding Officers
of all battalions. The Major General went through various MCA
projects.
At
Mile-4, the GOC was welcomed by young students who were
undergoing computer training at the computer centre
established by 3 Madras. He emphasised the necessity of
computer literacy and informed the students that Army was
setting up more computer centres for young students in remote
areas of Nagaland and a sum of Rs 25 lakh was being spent for
this purpose. The GOC also visited the orphanage at Hozukhe.

Army
School Celebrates Annual Day
The
Army School under aegis of HQ 101 Area, celebrated the annual
day function at the Rhino auditorium, Shillong. Brig Ashim
Chakravarti, Deputy Director Medical Services and also the
Chairman of the school was the chief guest on the occasion.
The traditional lamp was lit by Mrs S Chakravarti, which was
followed by a vibrant and colourful cultural programme
presented by the students of the school.
The
Army School at Shillong was established on March 23, 1983 and
within a short span of 17 years has achieved significant
results.
Though
the school predominantly caters to the children of soldiers, a
significant portion include children of Service officers and
civilians.
Mrs
S Chakravarti later gave away the prizes to the students who
achieved laurels during the academic year.
NCC
Millennium Trek
The
NCC millennium trekking expedition was organised by the NCC
Directorate North-Eastern region. Over 1000 boy-cadets from
all over India participated. The expedition began from Umroi.
The trek was entirely funded by the Ministry of Defence to
inculcate amongst the cadets the spirit of adventure and
exploration. The expedition also promoted national integration
through community living and assimilation of the knowledge of
different states.
The
trek was conducted through the hilly terrain around shillong.
The trekkers were divided in eight batches and they trekked
the route in a staggered time plan. There were four staging
camps earmarked at Gorkha High School, Mawphalang,
Cherrapunjee and Laitkor.
