WAC Commanders' Conference

The Air Chief Marshal AY Tipnis, Chief of the Air Staff, inaugurated the Western Air Command (WAC) Station Comman-ders’ Conference at HQrs WAC Subroto Park. He was received by Air Marshal S Krishnaswamy, AOC-in-C, WAC. The responsibility of the Western Air Command, in addition to air operations over the entire northern sector, is to provide support to two most potent commands of the Indian Army.

In his inaugural address, the CAS highlighted the decisive role of air power in all future conflicts. He stressed the importance of the Air Force maintaining a high level of preparedness and capability as well as posture to desist the adversary from attempting any misadventure against national interest. Assessing the geo-political situation and the threat to national security, the Air Chief stressed upon the necessity to sharpen skills and enhance ability to remain flexible to act in any theatre of operation.

The Air Chief commended the Western Air Command for its effort in maintaining and demonstrating excellent operational capability in all facets of air operations. He congratulated WAC for having set a record on air maintenance to J&K and Ladakh throughout the year despite inclement weather and adverse environment conditions. He observed that the Command had contributed immensely in enhancing jointmanship and bonhomie with the Army in meeting the operational needs of the ground forces.

The Chief of Air Staff urged the commanders to upgrade the capability and tactics in keeping with the demands. He said that being assured of adequate resources, the Air Force modernisation programme is given the right priority and push.

The Air Chief Marshal AY Tipnis emphasised the need to conserve resources and prevent losses in terms of accidents. He urged the commanders to spare no effort in enhancing the quality of training of operational crew, technical and supporting manpower and the effectiveness of operational infrastructure. The Air Chief also stated that the IAF has embarked upon a crusade for expeditious communications, air defence networking and computerisation. These projects would act as a force multiplier and enhance the capabilities of the Air Force, he added. The CAS emphasised the need for increased focus on information warfare and information technology.

The CAS also impressed upon the need to focus building camaraderie and spirit of the "Air Warrior" in each one in blue uniform.
