The
‘surpassing sixteen’, after having entered the Limca
Book of Records for the much acclaimed "India
Run", undertook one more multi disciplinary expedition,
the India Bhutan Joint Army Expedition in conjunction with the
Royal Bhutan Army.
The India-Bhutan Joint
Army Expedition was conceived, planned and successfully
executed by Col Rajesh Anand, Commanding Officer 16 Jat. The
expedition was unique in the sense that it was for the first
time that the Indian Army and the Royal Bhutan Army jointly
undertook a multi-disciplinary expedition. The expedition
commenced at Dukye Dzong (Bhutan) and successfully culminated
at Fort William, Calcutta.
Lt Birender Singh
Paliyal (team leader, 16 Jat), 1 JCO and 10 Other Ranks of the
Indian Army and 1 officer and 10 Other Ranks of the Royal
Bhutan Army formed the team. The expedition helped further the
bonds of friendship between the two armies of India and
Bhutan. The expedition involved trekking, running and
motor-cycling which covered a total distance of 2009
kilometers in 21 days.
The expedition was
dedicated to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice
during operation Vijay. The expedition commemorated the
silver jubilee of coronation of Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the
Royal King of Bhutan.
