A
total of 33 trainees of Pre-Commission
Courses of the senior and junior wings of Girls Division, NCC were granted
commission as Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) in the ranks of Second
Lieutenant and Third Officer respectively at a colourful passing out
parade held at the expansive training fields of NCC Women Officers
Training School, Gwalior. Donned in smart khaki uniform, the lady
trainees presented a very impressive ceremonial parade marching to the
tunes of Army bands. Thirtythree serving ANOs of two
Refresher-cum-Promotion courses and one girl cadet instructor also
participated in the parade. Brig Sushil Kumar Singh Negi, Commandant, NCC
Women Officers Training School reviewed the parade. This event was
preceded by a get-together of various civil and military dignitaries of
the city along with trainees and their guests.
The NCC Women Officers Training
School at Gwalior is the lone institute of its type in the country where
lecturers/teachers from colleges/schools all over India are imparted NCC
training to qualify for obtaining commission as Associate NCC Officers. On
return to their respective institutions, they look after the training and
administration of the NCC girl cadets. Lady officers so commissioned in
the NCC are required to attend refresher courses also at specific
intervals to update their professional knowledge and to keep abreast with
the latest training methods and allied administrative developments in the
organisation. Qualifying at these refresher courses is also a
pre-requisite for the ANOs to obtain promotion to the next higher rank.
Director General’s Plaque of
Honour, the award for standing first in order of merit in the
Pre-Commission Courses, was bagged by Dr (Miss) Sonia Behal of Punjab and
Mrs Liza Abraham of Andhra Pradesh in the senior and junior wings
respectively. In the Refresher-cum-Promotion Courses, the Director General’s
Gold Medals were awarded to Capt Mrs Hema Kinikar of Maharashtra and First
Officer Mrs Chandralekha Jain of Madhya Pradesh. The prize for the
"Best Firer" selected from all the courses was won by Miss L
Mallika of Tamil Nadu and the coveted Commandant’s Medal for commanding
the parade was awarded to Mrs K Vijaya of Andhra Pradesh.
Distinguished guests from the civil
and service organisations with their families attended the functions. Col
NM Shankar, Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor welcomed the guests.
